The Fastest Path to Your Pilot Career

We know the path to becoming a commercial pilot can seem long and challenging. Ascend Pilot Academy aims to support aspiring pilots through their journey by providing support and easing the cost burden of flight training. Once training is completed and employment at Horizon Air begins, the opportunity to join the Pathways program to be a First Officer at Alaska Airlines is available.

When you’re a student pilot, finding the right support and guidance for beginning a piloting career can be challenging. Horizon Air is here to help. Private pilots who are enrolled in our pilot development program will receive a $12,500 stipend, have opportunities to develop skills through mentoring from a professional pilot, and be included in special events. After completing the program and meeting all qualifications, you’ll be assigned a class date with Horizon Air.

Example: “If I noticed one of my colleagues was not performing their duties correctly, I would first try to help them understand what they were doing wrong. If they still didn’t seem to understand, I would ask for permission from my manager to train them on the task so they could learn how to do it properly. This shows my commitment to helping my coworkers succeed and ensures that we are all working at our best.”

If you make it through the in-person interview, you will be asked to complete a background check and drug test. Once you pass these, you will be officially hired!

Example: “I am willing to relocate anywhere Alaska Airlines needs me. I understand how valuable my skills are to the company and would be happy to go wherever I’m needed. In fact, I have already relocated twice for previous employers. I enjoy new experiences and meeting new people, so relocating wouldn’t be an issue for me.”
